TOGA! TOGA!

With less than a week away from San Francisco Theater Pub’s dynamic reading of Aristophanes’s CONGRESSWOMEN (or ASSEMBLYWOMEN, if you prefer), the Pubbers are prepping for what looks like Theater Pub’s first (but hopefully not last) toga party!

That’s right, Theater Pub is throwing a toga party. Show up in a sheet to help us Greek-out while we Geek-out over this ludicrous play that proves jokes about the sex lives of old ladies and the fecal functions of impotent husbands NEVER LOSE THEIR APPEAL. Somewhere in there is some pretty astute observations about the pitfalls of political and social idealism when put into practice by well-meaning but mal-informed reformists, but if you blink you might miss it. Aristophanes wasn’t really looking to drive home a point with this one. Or maybe the complete de-evolution into chaos at the end is exactly the point he was trying to make.  We’ll let you decide.

The fun begins at 8 PM on Monday, April 18th at the Cafe Royale, but we recommend getting there early because this one is very likely to be full housed. Afterwards be sure to stick around and chat us up about what’s next at Theater Pub and how you can get involved.

Don’t forget to bring your toga!
